[News] Fastest delivery: Amazon Prime Air Drones

On Wednesday, Amazon appeal to members of the Congress to approve the use of the unmanned aircraft systems (also known as drones) for package deliveries.

FAA released a proposed rule earlier this year that should limit the size, speed and range where it will deliver. In interim policy, FAA will grant Certificate of Waiver of Authorization to this exemption that would apply to aircraft and operations that the meet of the other criteria is set to any UAS operator for flights 200 feet or below.

UPS? UAS instead!

86 percent (86%) of the products that Amazon currently delivers weigh less than five pounds. So, Amazon's Prime Air plan calls for drones as delivery vehicles for the said packages.

Instead of using typical courier delivery like trucks UPS, FedEx or USPS that could take 2 to 7 days delivery, drones could allow Amazon deliver the packages to those customers in urban areas within 30 minutes upon ordering.

Michael Blades, senior industry analyst at Frost and Sullivan said that "As proposed, this system will feature automated operations to some degree".

He even told the E-Commerce Times that "It will likely be one person looking at computer screens that monitor a number of automated drones, much like how FedEx has people who monitor their fleet of trucks.". Where the difference is that trucks have drivers, drones? flies on its own.

According to a patent application the company filed on September in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Amazon drones able to be track while on delivery by using GPS data directly from a customer's mobile device.

When can we experience Amazon drones deliver?

Amazon already have the plans in place and could make deliveries next year of 2016 or 2017. Though FAA's proposed rules in place by the next summer.

Blades said "I don't see it happening that soon. Maybe in some limited testing of some sort, but it is at least five to ten (5 to 10) years out before we see the drones delivering packages.

A line of sight

The FAA allows drones to fly below 400 feet. It cannot fly near airports and must maintain a line of sight with the operator.

Blades said that "There are actually two things that are a big deal, and visual line of sight is just one of them". And even noted that beyond a mile or so, when you're outside the line of sight, and can't go higher because of its controlled airspace. The thing is how to avoid obstacles, aircraft power lines and he even ask if how can Amazon maintain constant communication and operating beyond line of sight?

Other issue here if where drone sets down? Buildings perhaps could create landing pads on roofs or walls but that could also be the present problem.

[News] Speed up to 20Gbps: 5G Mobile Technology

4G technology is not enough, we want more! 5G Networks, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is already looking into the next generation of this network technology.

Oh yes, 5G! We are taking about this upcoming ultra-speed mobile data that we'll experience.

ITU has announced a timeline for a name, demonstration and distribution while 5G standard is currently in the definition stage.

June 10 to 18, 2015, in San Diego, 12 member delegation sat to draw up the specifications to be established for the upcoming 5G network standard and to set a road map as to how the objective will be achieved.

What' the 5G mobile data's standard speed?

When taking about data speed, the ITU decided that 5G compliant networks will need to provide a maximum data speed of up to 20 Gbps, meaning it's 20 times faster than 4G LTE technology networks.

In the near future between 2018 and 2020, we can just simply download full-length High Definition (HD) movie on our mobile phone in just a few seconds. As from my calculation, this technology can download a movie within 10 to 20 seconds. Imagine!

Though 20 Gbps will be the standard data speed for 5G mobile data, the security researches from University of Surrey achieved 5G's record-breaking mobile data speed way back February this year of 2015. By the way, they achieved 1 Terabit per second (1 Tbps) speed. Wow!

5G for Internet-of-things (IoT) Devices

The specs for this 5G mobile network also serves as a future IoT technology. 5G can at least provide between 100 Mbps to 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps) transmission speed which is 10 more times faster than the typical 4G LTE speed of 10 Mbps only to over 1 Million IoT devices within the radius of 1km² = 0.3861022mi².

"The vision for the 5G network and its global standardization schedule has been agreed based on our suggestion," a Korean Ministry official told the Korea Times. "This has shown that Korea is leading the world's mobile communications technology and related policies."

When 5G mobile technology be available?

As what I'd stated earlier, it's expected to be launch between 2018 and 2020 since it's still in the development stage. Don't be sad, it's almost there! 3 to 5 more years to go!

The formal name scheme of 5G Networks will be call IMT-2020, similar to IMT-2000 for 3G Networks and IMT-Advanced for 4G Networks when released.

The final details for this IMT-2020 mobile networking will be in October of this year with the following approval from the 193 International Telecommunication Union (ITU) country members.
